Kindness of Judy

I'm so proud to share with everyone the hard work of Judy Lapierre, and her family. For the past 4 years they have been getting together at the trailer park and donating toys and other supplies to the children and families who need it. This Christmas they played Santa Clause for about 400 to 500 children and filled their little hearts with joy. Judy is a long time family friend and I like to believe we surround ourselves with the loveliest, kindest people, and she is all that and more. Than you and keep up the good work.

To all reading this and want to help some way. Please go to the Delegacion (mayors office in front of the town square) and ask for Tony. On Dec 27th, he and a group of friends are donating toys to lots of children in need. Be a part of something good and help. There is no better feeling than helping someone else. THAT'S WHAT CHRISTMAS IS ALL ABOUT!!!! HOHOHO MERRY CHRISTMAS

Mexican Style Holiday Season!!!

The holiday season is now officially here and all around us, and you may have noticed how people in town decorate their homes and business's, and most importantly their church. But the main focus is not your usual x-mas tree... sure it's there in the background, but the spotlight is always the "Nacimiento" (the birthing scene of Jesus Christ), everybody is there; Mary, Joseph, The three Kings and almost any imaginable living creature may be present as well!
The church in San Patricio showcases a live sized "Nacimiento" almost every year, but I like to walk through the streets at night and look in to peoples "Nacimientos" on their windows or front yards, they usually are the most creative!
Also this year one the National Popular Arts Museums "El Museo Nacional de Culturas Populares" offered an exhibition of some the different types of "Nacimientos" created by artisans in their own unique style, but with the same ancient techniques and aesthetic.
Here is the link if you want to check out the exhibit!

Virgin de Guadalupe

The Virgin of Guadalupe is a complex, mystical and transcendent spiritual figure who evokes the pre-Hispanic cosmos, and is also linked to African Orishas and other female deities. Mary is not only the queen of heaven, and a source of emotive power but she is the female goddess life-giver who empowers feminists who seek the female face of god.

More support for those affected by Jova

We haven't forgotten. A concert was organized in Victoria BC by Helen Davis and Bill Johnson to raise money for the Jova Victims. Thank you!!

"I am so happy and grateful to all the amazing musicians and people that came out and supported the concert to benefit Mexican hurricane victims on Saturday, December 3 at St. Anne's Academy. We netted $1,114.72 for donation to the relief effort in Cihuatlan municipality (Jalisco province), most of which will go toward purchasing non-perishable food items and sundries. Since it's Christmas, however, I think we might allocate a bit of that cash for toys for the little ones! Feliz navidad all you awesome people!!!!"

JOVA Northern Support

On Wednesday Oct,12, 2011 hurricane Jova hit the area of Costalegre which consists of many little towns on the west coast about half way down Mexico. Melaque was one of the little towns that was hit which is also my home town, and where all my friends and family live. The area was badly flooded and a lot of people lost their homes. It was a serious tragedy that at first went ignored by the media and government. Many people where left feeling abandoned and without any hope. I knew even though I was here in Canada I had the responsibility to do something to help. I reached out to good friends of mine in the area and asked them what I could do? They responded quickly and let me know what they were doing to help. Tony and his lovely fiancĂ© Anisol put a plan together. Anisol was in Guadalajara and was receiving donations from her friends and other concerned people. We soon realized that a lot of people   wanted to get involved and i decided to help by reaching out for financial donations from people who visit Melaque and surrounding areas. The amount of replies and financial donations was incredible I was so happy and pleased to see such an out-pour of support. The money was gathered and sent to Mexico and given to Anisol to buy supplies for people affected by the hurricane. She bought tuna cans, cooking oil, milk, cans of tomatoes, beans, sugar, oatmeal, soy, cereal, toilet paper, crackers, chocomilk, pasta, mayonnaise, cans of vegetables, soap (body, clothes, and dishes) bleach, and flip-flops. They also received clothing donations. She  took all the things she bought and her and our friend Edgar Gutierrez started the gruelling job of putting together over 200 donation parcels. After everything was done they put everything in two trucks and drove it down to Melaque and Cihuatlan. Edgar said it was about 3 tons of donations that were sent down.    Photos of the distribution of the donations

A LITTLE INTRODUCTION

Welcome
This website is designed to help Canadians and Americas who come to Melaque, and the surrounding areas and want to be informed of different projects, events, and ideas that contribute to the growth Melaque.
Melaque is a beautiful town located in Jalisco Mexico. Located about halfway down the Pacific coast, it's a wonderful place to vacation and spend some time drinking margaritas on the beach with friends and family. To some people this is all they really need. Just some time to relax and forget the troubles of back home. But what about those who want to know more? Those who want to go beyond the beach and really get involved in helping those who need a hand or be part of the many projects that are happening now.
Take a look at what you can do help. I will be updating this page with the many developments taking place in Melaque.
